Ireland Wolves Set to Begin Bangladesh A Series
The Ireland Wolves begin an 8-match series against Bangladesh A with a 50-over fixture in Oak Hill, County Wicklow on Wednesday August 1st.
Pembroke’s Andrew Balbirnie captains the squad throughout the series, a squad that Wolves Head Coach and Academy Manager, Pete Johnston, is excited to see in action.
“The selectors have chosen a strong squad with an even mix of emerging talent and current centrally contracted players,” Johnston said.
“Bangladesh A will provide the Wolves with an excellent challenge. It will be exciting to see how we match up in our home conditions and the challenge will be to play a competitive ODI series and hopefully come out the right side of it.”
A 14-man matchday squad has been selected from the full 16-player panel for the series, with eight Leinster players included.
Captain Andrew Balbirnie has Pembroke clubmates, JJ Garth and Lorcan Tucker, along with Durham’s Barry McCarthy in tomorrow’s panel.
JJ Garth scored his maiden senior half-century on Sunday last and is “really excited” about meeting up with the squad again after the successful Wolves tour of Scotland.
Clontarf paceman David Delany and Merrion’s Test Match international Tyrone Kane boost the fast bowling options, while YMCA teammates Simi Singh and Harry Tector could be very effective if the overcast and damp conditions persist.
The first 50-over match of the 8-game series gets underway in Oak Hill at 10.45am on Wednesday, August 1st. There will be live updates on all Leinster Lightning players on Twitter with a match report after the game here on www.cricketleinster.ie
