Dundalk Cricket Club found themselves in the spotlight once more at their Dromiskin ground on Wednesday 1st August.
The club have been followed by RTE 1's John Murray Show as part of the 'Underdogs' series and the John came down to see the club at a practice session and to interview some of the members. They were accompanied by none other than Phil Simmons coach of the Ireland Cricket Team who there was to look at some young stars of the future and to give a few tips.
Big Phil was able to renew his acquaintance with the club having met some of the members at the Ireland v Australia match in Belfast recently, one of whom was young member and future bowling prospect Michael Mullen, the coach then spent some further time with the senior members and outlined his basic philosophy that any sport should be played as something that you enjoy. Phil knows what he's talking about and is arguably Ireland's greatest coach especially with the stunning win last year over England during the World Cup. This is not the first a national coach that has been to the club as they were launched back in 2009 by Phil's predecessor Adi Birrell.
John Murray has been following the progress of the 1st team and was brought right up to speed with their current progress, at the moment they lie third in Leinster Division 9 and with many more games to go in August and September have a real prospect of promotion.
John was shown around the ground and the diverse club with members from Ireland, England, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Australia were able to give some idea of the origins of the club and how they all came to be involved.
Finally John was given the chance to have a go at the willow on leather himself and gave a creditable display of his batting prowess.
The show is due for broadcast on RTE Radio 1 on Wednesday morning of 8th August, so tune in to hear Dundalk's own tell their story.
