Cricket Leinster and the Munster Cricket Union have jointly agreed not to proceed with the second Munster team which had been planned to participate in Division 2 of Cricket Leinster's Open Competitions.
This decision has been made jointly and in recognition of concerns expressed within both provinces around logistical issues, cost concerns and player development potential.
From a Cricket Leinster perspective, this means that for the 2018 season, Division 2 will be comprised of 7 teams from Balbriggan, Cork County, Dublin University, Malahide, Railway Union, Rush and Terenure.
The two provinces have also agreed that they will meet in the coming weeks to discuss how best they can work together to develop cricket in both Leinster and Munster. These discussions will look at a range of areas to encourage player development and co-operation to grow cricket at youth level and initiatives to promote financial investment for cricket activity across both provinces.
