A key moment in the Women's Cup Final
The records books will show that the Kidd Insurance Women’s Senior Cup Final in 2017 was won by YMCA. But the event was also notable for another reason - it was the first time that a match was live streamed through the Cricket Leinster website. Hopefully this will be just the first of many such matches recorded in this way in Leinster club cricket in the future. Many thanks to all involved, especially the commentary team of Heatley Tector and his guest speakers.
But now to the reason for being there in the first place - the match itself. YMCA won the toss and inserted The Hills. This proved to be a very good call as The Hills lost early wickets, including the crucial one of Katie Gurrey. At different points The Hills were 17/4 and 32/6 but the 31 from Laura Boylan with support down the order from sister Katie ensured that the team batting through the innings making a score of 83/8. The wickets were well spread with a brace each for Robyn Lewis [2/19] and Vanshika Shukla [2/16]
It was something to defend but not really enough. There was a moment of raised expectation when Clare Shillington was out early but thereafter the runs came steadily from Gaby Lewis [22], Jennie Grey [17*] and Heidi Cheatle [37*]. In the end YMCA ran out winners by eight wickets in the 15th over.
