Last Friday saw the first Midlands cricket coaching clinic which was held at the Laois cricket club grounds in Portlaoise. It was aimed at young boys and girls aged between 8 and 15.

Clubs represented were Laois, Bagnalstown, Carlow, Halverstown, Ballyeighan and Athlone. 34 attended in total and the children learned a range of skills which included catching, throwing, basic batting skills, defensive and off drive shots along with basic bowling drills. The day finished with some small sided games that proved very enjoyable for those in attendance.

A good time was had by all in spite of the changeable weather and the feedback was positive from both children and parents alike.

Plans are already in place to provide coaching to the schools in the Laois area over the coming months and for these schools to have use of the club's facilities for inter-schools games planned for next May and June.
