175 not out!
Last year was a great year for Bagenalstown Cricket Club. It was hard work, and I think it is safe to safe that we had the rub of the green when it came to the final placings, but all three teams got promoted (two as champions), and now the challenge is to make sure that this is all a part of an upwards trajectory, and not a peak!
We are delighted to be celebrating our 175th Anniversary this year. Quite a few clubs were started in the first half of the 19th century, but not many have endured throughout the last three centuries. We are the oldest parochial club in Ireland, and the second oldest (behind Phoenix), and we are very proud of that fact.
We hope that everyone within the LCU would agree that this is a huge achievement, and will join us in celebrating this milestone.
To kick things off, we are proud to present our spanking new website:
www.175notout.com
We are also delighted announce a club Blitz Day on May 5th, in conjunction with Aiobheann’s Pink Tie, a fantastic children’s charity that is very close to our hearts. We may be calling on a few guest players to join us on what promises to be a day to remember, and we would invite anyone who is free to pop down and get involved.
We also have a pre-season tour in the UK, and I understand that there may be some cricket to break up the consumption of beer.
Time to start dreaming of sun-soaked days, the sound of leather on willow, delicious teas, and the spirit of cricket shining through…ah, pre-season optimism! There’s nothing like it.
Good luck to all teams for the season ahead.
