Every week captains and other volunteers complete result cards [in effect full scoresheets] which are then entered into the Sportstaz website to produce player statistics and match details. It involves a time commitment not only at a central level where each card has to be examined to make sure it is complete and all the names are correct but by everyone filling in the details in the first place.
For all Open Competition going back to 2011 [leagues, cups and T20s] you can now go in and access the statistics directly. Working with Sportstatz anyone can now interrogate the records and run a series of reports filtered by team, competition, format [e.g. T20] or period [one year or for all years back to 2011].
So you can go in and check who has the best bowling performance or highest score in Division 5 over the past five years. You can get the batting or bowling averages for your team [in all competitions or a particular competition]. You can find out who has the highest partnership by wickets across the whole open competition this year. And once you go in and get a list of players that match your criteria [e.g. who has played most matches this year] then you can click on the individual player to pull up additional player details. You can also select [from the player details] the relevant club and track every match and related scorecard.
The reports section of SportsStatz, which the website taps into, is a recent development and we would expect there to be improvements over the next 12 months. At present you cannot select directly by club, just by team, and this is something we hope to see changed. But if you have thoughts about additional reports you would like to see, let us know and we will pass it on.
The Data Centre also contains links to Cricket Leinster’s Competitions Database which has the winners and many runners up for all Open Competitions going back to 1895 [when Athy won the Intermediate Cup].
Thanks to the work of the late Derek Scott, Cricket Leinster has access to a fascinating and unique trove of records about club cricket. It is doubtful if any country [or indeed any sport] has the equivalent for an amateur club sport. Now that we have the Data Centre we have the platform to display more material from the Derek Scott Archive. There is a lot of work still to be done to digitise these records for which we need more volunteers. Anyone interested please contact cricketleinster@gmail.com.
The Player Statistics is only the start. Try it out for yourself. Link is on the Home Page.
As an addendum - there is a particular dearth of Womens Records which make it very difficult to compile statistics. This is a task in itself to bring together what material we have and to start putting it up into databases. Anyone interested in taking this on please let us know.
