Launch of Midlands Youth representative side
On Friday the 11th July, MYC officially had their first game of cricket against Munster in an u15, 35 over game. This was the third effort in playing Munster at youth level this season, with an u15 and an u17 game being cancelled earlier in the month due to logistics and the good Irish weather!
MYC is an initiative from the Midlands and South East Cricket Association, to develop youth cricket outside of Dublin within the Leinster region. MYC is a representative side for youth cricket amongst these clubs, to expose their players to a higher standard of cricket. On the day in question, there were five clubs represented from the association. They came from Bagenalstown, Knockharley, Laois, North Kildare and Wexford cricket clubs.
With the game itself, the toss was won by MYC, and they batted first. A couple of early wickets set them back at the start, but an excellent 73 from Knockharley's Ross Shivmangal brought the total up to 127 all out from exactly 35 overs. Ross continued his performance with the ball, getting a wicket first ball of the Munster innings! However, too many wides cost MYC a chance to take the game close, and Munster won by 6 wickets, with 8 overs to spare.
For this season, MYC have one further u17 game against Munster, and are looking to have winter training, along with expanding their fixtures for next season. Updates on MYC can be found on Twitter @YcMid. Onwards and upwards for Midland Cricket!
