During 2012 the Leinster Cricket Groundmens Association ran a number of grounds courses. On the 18th of Septeptember, Len Smith of the Institute of Groundsmanship ran the final course of 2012 - Autumn Renovation . During this very practical days training we got to see the benefit of the Trailer Equipment sponsored by the LCU. Indeed with Len staying in Dublin for the week he got a chance to advise clubs first hand on issues such as improving levels, raising germination rates and increasing loam applications. The fruits of these labours should be see in the years to come.
2012 has been a tough year for groundsmen. The weather has tested the patience of all.
However, much progress has been made. The number of fully trained groundsmen has increased, many of the top grounds have plans in place to improve their wickets and clubs are more willing to provide resources for improvements.
With the introduction of a newly formed LCU Grounds Committee under the stewardship of Justin Rodgers and the movement towards the introduction of Pitch Inspectors , an appropriate structure is being put in place to monitor grounds and assist clubs in their future development.
Finally, a word of thanks to Len Smith from the IOG who has become a regular visitor to Dublin thanks to the generosity of YM. Having been a central figure in setting up Grounds structures in Wales he has been equally enthusiastic about progressing grounds in Leinster.
Over the close season the LCGA hope to make a number of important annoucements in relation to grounds. On a personal note can I thank all those who have assisted the LCGA during the 2012 season.
