The new LCU 20/20 Cup -The Russell Court Hotel spluttered into life this week. The competition to let cricketers from Divisions 10-14 to experience 20/20 cricket was due to start this week, with matches in Dundrum and Railway Union. Unfortunately as with so many other matches this season, the weather saw that they never took place.
The regulations for the new tournament are broadly in line with the other mid week competitions. Matches are to be played in traditional whites, with innings composed of twenty 6 ball overs.
Fielding restictions do apply, but only consist of the basic "minimum of four fielders in the circle". Wides and no balls are as the Laws describe, which is the same situation as in Division 5-14 league cricket. Finally, and group match that is not completed is forgotten about, and each side received two points. The full regulations can be viewed on the Regulations page
Four more LCU 20/20 - The Russell Court Hotel matches are due to take place this week. On Tuesday, Merrion 7 host Pembroke 6 (Group G) whilst Wednesday sees the Group A encounter between Railway Union 5 and Old Belvedere 3. On Thursday, North County 5 travel to Rush 4 (Group C) and Sunday sees the Group D match between North Kildare 3 and The Hills 4.
Clubs should be reminded that in mid-week competitions, teams can not receive a player from the team above them in the starrings.
