Andrew Leonard has been appointed Cricket Development Officer for South Dublin County Council area. Andrew will commence in his new role on Nov 1st. This is a great boost for the game in Leinster and will be specifically geared towards grass roots programmes designed to increase participation and to foster the development of new clubs in the area, while also working to develop emerging talent by assisting with the Leinster youth programme during the summer.
The post has come about following discussions between Cricket Leinster and South Dublin Co Co (Sports & Recreation Dept) and follows closely the model that was established in Fingal CC that has been running successfully for nearly four years. Alison Silke, Sports Officer at South Dublin CC welcomed the appointment commenting ‘ We have been working closely with the IRFU and FAI in recent years and are now looking forward to our partnership with the Leinster Cricket Union that will see children in all areas of South Dublin being given an opportunity to play cricket’.
She went on to say, ‘We have supported LCU cricket programmes previously at the three Adamstown National schools, Arch Bishop Ryan National school in Balgaddy, St Aidan’s National school in Brookfield, Tallaght along with Coláiste Phádraig secondary school in Lucan. We assisted Adamstown CC in obtaining a new ground several years ago in Clondalkin (Corkagh Park) and we are currently looking at several projects in Tallaght (Tymon Park & Rathcoole Park) that may see new clubs formed in the coming years. These are exciting times for cricket in Ireland and we are looking forward to working with Andrew in his efforts to promote the game further in our area’.
