Leinster U15’s – Season 2018

A training programme that involved eight indoor sessions, five outdoor, along with a trial match resulted in this year’s side being very well prepared for both the interprovincial series held in North County Dublin in June and the trip to Cork in August which has now taken the place of the discontinued Wolverhampton youth festival.

Leinster won the interprovincial series this year, our 5th win in six seasons at this age group. Many thanks to Peter Searson, Fintan McAllister, Diarmuid Lynch, Stephen Doheny, James Smith & Daniel Coffey for accompanying the boys of both squads (Leinster & Southern XI) and acting as coaches/managers/scorers over the three days.

Overall ten Leinster boys - Ben Brownlee, Diarmuid Burke, Wilhelm De Klerk, James Forbes, Nathan McGuire, Jack McGee, Tim Tector, Daniel Thorne, David Vincent and Luke Whelan - were selected for the Ireland U15’s and travelled to Ayr in August for a series of games against Scotland and then a tour to London to play Surrey and the West Indies.

Training for the 2019 U15 squad will commence shortly (Friday, 24th of November) and close to 50 boys will be involved in this. Thankfully, it would look at this stage that the 2019 group will be quite strong again.

Overall, nine Leinster boys will travel to South Africa this winter as part of their Transition Year. U15 player from this season Matthew Lynch will travel to Muir College, South Africa. Jack McGee & Daniel Thorne will attend Glenwood High School in Durban. A Leinster youth player will also spend time at Queen’s College in Taunton next May/June in the latest player placement arrangement established by Cricket Leinster. This should further develop their games and offers a route for them to participate at provincial/international Under 17 level in the coming years.
