Leinster Lightning Bolts have today confirmed an extended 24-man squad for this season’s upcoming Future Series campaign, which will get under way on Tuesday, 28th June with an away fixture against the Emerging Knights in Lisburn.
The extended squad sees no fewer than 17 players who have had Future Series experience in last season’s edition of the competition, whilst there are of course some new faces in the squad, and complemented by 8 players who have been involved in full Lightning squads already at one stage or another so far this season.
Head Coach Nigel Jones is excited by the opportunity to get as many players as possible some exposure to this next step up from club cricket, and also use it as a springboard towards the remainder of the InterProvincial campaign.
“We’ve got plenty of young players in this squad with some exciting skill sets and we’re looking to get more cricket into them, looking at guys like Jamie Forbes coming out of the Irish U19s environment and some of the skills he brings with his batting coming on and complimenting his left-arm orthodox.
Obviously this series provides the opportunity to guys to push into the Leinster Lightning squad in the next year or two, but there’s of course an opportunity for a few players as we get closer to the last T20 festival in late July that we may be able to get some games into a couple of guys to help them prepare for that as there will be some players in this squad who we could see playing a key part in that festival for the Lightning side.
Not only are we looking at today, but we have to look at tomorrow and the next two or three years down the road as to how guys can keep coming through and developing”
