It was a relatively even day’s play in Comber to begin the InterProvincial Championship match between the Leinster Lightning and the Northern Knights, with the Lightning just shading it.
One thing is certain, with the Lightning having only faced 14 overs, the match is beautifully poised heading into Day 2.
Leinster were quick out of the blocks on Day 1 and had the Knights 60/4 at Lunch. Malahide’s Peter Chase (3-38) was happy with the bowler’s efforts on a scorching day at North Down CC.
“We started well, very well really, in the morning session. In fairness to the lads (McCollum & Getkate) they batted quite well, with maybe one or two loose deliveries after lunch, but we came back well and got the job done in the end,” said Chase at the close.
Lightning captain George Dockrell knows the morning session on Day 2 will be telling in this match.
“It’s probably honours even, having the lads four down so early it was a great first session. We’ll have to bat tomorrow and see how we go. It’s a decent deck and a quick outfield so you get value for your runs.
“Ando (John Anderson) and Bal (Andrew Balbirnie) looked good in that little patch there before the close. It was obviously disappointing to have lost Jack (Tector) but hopefully those two can bat well and we can make it another good morning session setting ourselves up to try and win this game,” Dockrell added.
