The Leinster Lightning squad has been announced for the final IP20 Festival which is scheduled to take place from Tuesday 1st to Thursday 3rd August inclusive at Pembroke CC, Sydney Parade.
Tuesday 1st: Leinster Lightning v Munster Reds (11.00am)
Wednesday 2nd: Leinster Lightning v North West Warriors (3.30pm)
Thursday 3rd: Leinster Lightning v Northern Knights (3.30pm)
Andre Botha (Head Coach) will be operating with the continued unavailability of some core squad members including Josh Little, Andrew Balbirnie (family leave) and Harry Tector (holidays). In addition, both Gavin Hoey and Reuben Wilson are injured and therefore unavailable for selection.
With the last IP20 Festival completely lost to weather in Derry, this will be Botha’s first opportunity to put his stamp on the List A team.
An exciting addition to the squad is the 21-year old New Zealander Riley Mudford who has been performing strongly for Railway Union since joining the club at the start of the season. Mudford was previously named in the squad for the Derry festival which fell victim to the adverse weather.
Chris DeFreitas comes into the squad based on his consistent club form at Balbriggan and his recent match-winning contributions for the Leinster Lightning Bolts including an unbeaten century against the Emerging Warriors in Ardmore and an unbeaten 75 in The Mardyke. DeFreitas also made a recent ton for the Irish Academy side.
John McNally will be part of the match-day squad next Tuesday based on his club form and performance at Bolts level (including 53 off 43 balls against the young Warriors and an unbeaten 34 off 26 in the win over Munster Heat).
