The Leinster Lightning squad for the 2022 season has today been confirmed as no fewer than 8 internationals are named in the 12 man squad for the upcoming InterProvincial season.
Leinster Lightning is again sponsored by LHW Financial Planning for the 2022 season and everyone associated with the team and Cricket Leinster would like to again express our thanks to Alan Lewis, Jack Tector & the team at LHW for their continued sponsorship and support.
George Dockrell will captain the side again this year and will be looking to build on a phenomenal track-record which has seen Leinster Lightning win the last eight (8) IP50 titles in a row.
There are some new faces in the squad – with Harry Tector returning to the province where he played all his underage cricket and Greg Ford (who captains Balbriggan CC) transitioning to the Lightning after a spell with Munster.
Another new face in the core squad is Pembroke’s Gavin Hoey who made his T20 debut for the Lightning last year.
Pembroke CC dominate the squad, with no fewer than 5 players representing the club in the squad with YMCA having 3 representatives (including 2 Tectors). Malahide is the other club with multiple selections with two of their clubmen selected (including Peter Chase returning from injury) whilst Phoenix and Balbriggan are the other clubs represented in the squad.
One player who is not in the Lightning squad this year is Kevin O'Brien who, after many successful seasons with the province, will be joining up with the Munster Reds for the 2022 season.
Everyone at Cricket Leinster would like to thank Kevin for his unstinting commitment to the Lightning cause across the last number of seasons since the InterProvincial series' were reintroduced in Ireland in the 2013 season.
