The Leinster Lightning have today announced a 12-man squad for the Test Triangle Inter-Provincial Championship match against the Northern Knights from Tuesday July 30th to Thursday August 1st.
The three-day match takes place at Pembroke, with the Lightning out for revenge having been beaten by the Knights in both one-day formats in their last two encounters at the Sydney Parade venue.
For this Championship clash the Lightning make two changes to the squad that drew with the North West Warriors in a rain-affected encounter at Bready last month.
Rush’s Stephen Doheny, who has been scoring runs for his club and representative sides recently, and Pembroke’s left-armer Josh Little replace Gareth Delany and Fionn Hand as Head Coach Nigel Jones looks to get a victory under his belt against players he knows intimately from playing against them week in, week out.
“I’m delighted that the selectors have been able to choose from a full squad for the first IPC fixture with the Northern Knights,” said Jones.
“With player workloads and differing formats, it’s always a challenge at this stage of the season to have everybody fit and firing. There have, however, been some very encouraging performances over the past month or so, in club cricket and Irish squads since our last IPC fixture.
“We look forward to this form continuing and the challenge that the Knights will bring.”
Captain George Dockrell is equally looking forward to a very busy period for the Lightning.
“It’s an incredibly important month for us with three back to back IPC games. Next week at Pembroke provides us with a great chance to get a win on the board and be in the driving seat with the InterProvincial Championship,” added Dockrell.
The Leinster Lightning face the Northern Knights from Tuesday July 30th to Thursday August 1st from 11am each morning. The 3-day match will be live scored on the match centre on www.cricketleinster.ie with regular updates on @lcu_lightning and @cricketleinster on Twitter and daily reports from Pembroke on the website.
