Leinster Schools had a strong start to this week’s traditional two day fixture against the Ulster Schools yesterday afternoon, and will begin today’s play ahead by 74 runs.
Hassan Shahid, representing the Leinster Champions St Joseph’s Rush, top scored for Leinster Schools with a well-made 56, as the side made 211/6 batting first in the 55 overs allowed.
There were also contributions from High School men, Rob O’Brien and Ethan Clarke, making 42 and 23 respectively, with further 20s coming from Terenure College’s Ryan Smith, Sandford Park’s Sean Sandys, and Seb Dijkstra of St Columbas College.
Leinster Schools ensured it would be a good day by reducing Ulster Schools to 137/7 after 44 overs, a deficit of 74 runs, with Dijkstra the pick of the bowlers so far with 2/26, whilst Shahid has also taken 2/39.
Play resumes this morning, with these efforts seeing Leinster Schools right on top heading into Day Two’s play.
