The finalists for the Leinster Senior Cup 2016 which takes place on the 30th July in Castle Avenue are Leinster and YMCA. The two teams [who have each won the competition 10 times] last met in the final in 1991 when YMCA came out the victors. In the only previous encounter in 1984, YMCA also came out on top.
In the semi-finals Leinster were comfortable eight wicket winners against Railway Union. Railway batted first and made 137 ao. Azhar [5/37] was the main wicket taker, but was well supported by Law [3/31] and Dockrell [2/26]. An opening partnership of 56 between Coad [43] and MacDonnell [45*] ensured that there were no upsets.
In the second match at Castle Avenue, Clontarf batted first and fought hard to make 194/9 in the 55 overs allowed. There was a half century from Poynter [66] and a few 20s but overall a below par total. Parkinson, Jehangir and Harry Tector took a brace of wickets each. A solid start from YMCA between Jack Tector [55] and Fisher [40] ensured that YMCA were always in control. This was followed by a quick 50 from Singh. David Delany took three wickets but it was not enough. YMCA won by five wickets.
