Cricket Ireland has seen the first course of its 2011-12 Coach Education programme begin with great success last week in North County Cricket Club. Cricket Ireland’s Coach-Ed programme is supported by the ‘Pepsi’ ICC Europe’s Development Programme.
The ECB Coaching Assistant Level One course has seen a great mixture of new coaches, volunteers, interested parents and key members of new clubs attend. Following the course they will be able to ‘assist more qualified coaches delivering aspects of coaching sessions.’ This role may include running warm ups, cool downs, small sided games and small group work.
The course will help coaches prepare for, deliver and review cricket coaching sessions. It will enable them to:
§ introduce and develop the game of cricket to people of all ages in a safe and enjoyable way
§ develop and improve players (as people as well as cricketers)
§ develop coaching skills, knowledge and qualities
Those that attended the course run on October 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd include:
Niall Black, Mary Curley & Alan Maginnis (Phoenix), Niamh Brennan, Donnchadh Morgan & Austin O’Meara (Carlow), Brian Buttimer (Terenure), Robert Chambers (Malahide), Iarlaith Doherty (The Hills), Callum Donnelly & Sean McAuley (YMCA), Liam Giggins (Knockharley), Bill Hobbs & John Threadgold (Halverstown) Tariq Islam, Tom Morris & Usama Raaes (all Laois), Amy Kenealy (Leinster), Stephen Little (Pembroke), Niall McGovern & Eddie Richardson (North County), Mark Reardon (Old Belvedere) and Declan Ryan (Greystones).
