This evening saw the latest round of the LHK Insurance Alan Murray Cup, with the Terenure vs YMCA clash the featured match.
The home team won the toss and decided to bat and take advantage of their newly installed artificial pitch. A strong opening partnership, 98 runs in 8.2 overs turned out to be the platform they needed to take home the honours.
Seamus Lynch led the way with 64 runs off 21 balls, including his usual beligerent style of more 6's (seven, including a direct hit on the pavilion clock) than 4's (five). Donal wasn't too far behind him with 55 off 47, four each of 4s and 6s.
The run rate fell away a bit after that with the YMCA bowling getting on top of things. But a slight wag of the tail left Terenure with 182 to defend. Pick of the bowling was Rory Anders with 3/26 off 4 with Mikey O'Reilly's 1/15 off four also extremely valuable.
YMCA started off strong, taking advantage of the powerplay. Rory Anders backed up his bowling with 54 runs off 22 balls (5 of each 4s & 6s). Tim Tector also scored a valuable 33 but Terenure marshalled their bowlers and fielded brilliantly to strangle the run rate.
Every time that YMCA looked like getting the run rate under control, Terenure grabbed another wicket. Bowling honoures were shared with 2 wickets each for Mick Cotter, Zubair Khan, Raghav Grover & Aidan Doyle.
Sixteen were needed off the last over, YMCA got a wide and a six off the first two, but then Vipul Kashyap was well caught leaving YMCA with an impossible task. A close game of cricket, with home advantage getting Terenure over the line.
