The Leinster Lightning Selectors are delighted to announce the following squad of players for the first Hanley Energy Inter-Provincial match of the season – a 50-over clash against the North-West Warriors in The Hills Cricket Club on bank holiday Monday 1st May.
John Anderson (Captain – Merrion); Andrew Balbirnie (Pembroke); Peter Chase (Malahide); George Dockrell (Vice-Captain - Leinster / Dublin University); Jamie Grassi (North County); Ed Joyce (Merrion); Tyrone Kane (Merrion); Josh Little (Pembroke); Kevin O’Brien (Railway Union); Eddie Richardson (North County); Simi Singh (YMCA); Max Sorensen (The Hills); Sean Terry (The Hills).
The squad is compiled mainly of players who did battle for the province last season, returning a hat-trick of Inter-Pro titles for the second year in succession.
We are very pleased to welcome Ed Joyce into the squad for the first time, having returned to Ireland at the end of the 2016 season and wish him all the very best in a Lightning shirt.
Andrew Balbirnie also returns to the squad and Kevin O’Brien has been declared fit following the hamstring injury he sustained during the recent Afghanistan series. Finally there is also a recall for wicket-keeper Jamie Grassi as Lorcan Tucker is unavailable due to exams next week.
First ball in The Vineyard is 10:45am and entry is free.
In addition to the selection of the senior squad above, we are very proud to announce the formation of a Lightning Bolt (under-23/development) squad which we are sure will provide invaluable opportunities for the younger players in the Province to showcase their abilities at a higher level and push for a place in the senior side.
Captained by YMCA’s Jack Tector, this squad will play their first set of matches home and away against the Northern Knights emerging side on the 6th May in Saintfield Cricket Club and the 28th May at Oakhill.
The under-23 squad in full:
Jack Tector (Captain – YMCA); Rory Anders (Phoenix); David Delany (Clontarf); Gareth Delany (Leinster); Stephen Doheny (Rush); Jamie Grassi (North County); Josh Little (Pembroke); Sam Murphy (YMCA); Andy Sheridan (North County); Tom Stanton (Merrion); Harry Tector (YMCA); Fiachra Tucker (Pembroke).
