Following an application and interview process we are delighted to announce that former Irish International David Langford Smith has accepted the position of Lightning selector. David will follow in the footsteps of fellow Merrion man Jeff Short who vacated the position last month.
Lanky as he is affectionately known hails from Sydney and is a naturalised Irish man who played in the famous St Patricks day win over Pakistan in the 2007 World Cup, the opening bowler played 43 times for Ireland in total taking 65 wickets. He brings a raft of experience to the Lightning selection panel where he will join Conor Armstrong, George Dockrell, Mark Jones & Albert van der Merwe.
Speaking about his appointment Lanky is delighted to be given the opportunity to get involved with the Lightning and is looking to help out where he can not just in a selectorial capacity, we wish David all the very best in his new position.
