Leinster Lightning were once again utterly explosive and dominant with the bat, as they saw superb contributions from each of their number 3, 4 and 5 propel them to a simply outrageous total of 260/3 in their 20 overs this afternoon, ultimately resulting in a 128 run victory over the North West Warriors.
Lightning gloveman and vice-captain Lorcan Tucker shared a stand of 88 with opener Andy Balbirnie, dominating completely before the wicket of the Irish skipper for 31. Tucker went into overdrive either side of Balbirnie’s wicket, hitting five towering sixes and seven boundaries on his way to a spectacular 77 from just 33 balls, before Shane Getkate eventually accounted for him.
Having joined Tucker with the score on 108, Harry Tector had appeared to be rather sedate in his approach to the innings, favouring hitting his boundaries in fours rather than maximums. The Lightning number four hammered his way to an unbeaten 58 from just 23 balls, with ten fours and two sixes in his excellent innings.
George Dockrell however picked up where he left off yesterday, hitting six fours and six maximums on his way to a spectacular unbeaten innings of 69 from just 26 balls, with a feature of his innings yet again being the clinical accuracy with which he dispatched the ball to the boundary at every opportunity he got.
For the Warriors, Andrew McBrine stood head and shoulders above the others, with his four overs gleaning the outstanding figures of 2/34.
In response, an excellent four over spell from Josh Little saw him take figures which would have seemed impossible at one stage in this weekend of cricket, finishing with 3/12. Gavin Hoey was the other bowler to take three wickets, his costing slightly more at a total of 34 runs.
Spin duo George Dockrell and Simi Singh accounted for the big wickets in the Warriors side, knocking over Stephen Doheny and Nathan McGuire respectively before the Pembroke pair of Little and Hoey took control, bowling the away side out for 132 inside 18 overs.
