Leinster Lightning coach Nigel Jones has confirmed his squad to travel to Cork and face the Munster Heat in their next Future Series T20 fixture of the season.
The Alistair Frost skippered side come into the fixture off the back of three wins from three in this week’s action, as they saw off the Emerging Knights both home and away, with a victory against Ireland U17s sandwiched between the two.
Vice-captain Tim Tector was in the runs this week, making three scores between 69 and 86 in the three wins. Cormac McLoughlin-Gavin, Chris de Freitas and Gavin Hoey are retained in the batting unit, whilst Séamus Lynch returns to the side as wicket-keeper having not played in this week’s fixtures.
Bowling wise, Wednesday’s wicket-takers Amish Sidhu, Mikey O’Reilly and Hoey are joined by another pair of spinners in Dylan Lues and Cillian McDonnell, whilst David O’Halloran joins the seamers in the attack.
Coach Jones is looking forward to the trip to The Mardyke to round off this season’s edition of the Future Series;
“This competition has been great for us yet again this season, with the busy schedule we knew it was going to take an awful lot of commitment from the boys, and we got that and also got a chance to look at a good few guys across the course of the tournament and I suppose challenge ourselves with the brand of cricket we want to play, being really positive, taking the game as much as we can and as often as we can.
Ultimately you’ve got to back your skills and as a result of that we’ve seen some impressive performances but also some errors that we’ve got to take some lessons from and I suppose that’s beauty of this competition, you’ve got guys who are at that level who are pushing on to make that next step, and they are setting down the markers to those younger guys who are coming up to that level, which in turn gives them something of an eye-opener in terms of what’s needed.
The opportunity to get to play different oppositions on different grounds in a short time scale has been brilliant for those involved so we’re in a good place and now we’re looking to finish strongly in our last game on Monday, good luck to all the boys selected”
