Leinster Lightning regained the Hanley Energy IP Trophy on Friday night in Eglinton, after a high scoring encounter ended with the North West Warriors winning by 15 runs, a result that denied the Warriors the bonus point that they needed to overtake Lightning in the final table.
The Warriors set Lightning exactly 200 to win, or 155 to regain a trophy that Lightning last won in 2013. John Mooney was the hero for Lightning, with a 68 ball 110*, the team finishing on 185-4.
Tyrone Kane was named man of the series, his 10 wickets at 9.50 forcing his way into the Ireland squad for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup qualifying squad, an impressive performance in a series in which only one other bowler, the Warrior's Craig Young got more than five wickets.
There is a month long break in the Henley Energy Interprovincial schedule now, before Lightning continue their quest for a clean sweep of the three competitions with an IP50 match against the Northern Knights in Merrion CC on August 2nd.
Congrats to the whole squad and backroom staff on the first trophy of 2015!
