Some of Leinster Lightning’s star players were in Sandymount last week to promote the 2019 Smartwater Summer Smash Twenty20 match vs Middlesex on Friday 21st June in Pembroke CC, Sandymount.
Leinster Lightning Captain George Dockrell, Batsmen Andy Balbirnie and the record Irish caps holder in any sport, and former pupil of the school, Kevin O’Brien hosted a special coaching session at Star of the Sea National School in Sandymount with more than 30 children.
The Star of the Sea National School cricket team play in the Cricket Leinster School’s Super League and many of the 5th and 6th class were present as the 3 Leinster Lightning and Ireland players passed on some batting, bowling and fielding tips throughout an energetic session in the school.
At the end of the session, all of the participating children were given some special tickets for the big match on Friday 21st June where Leinster Lighting will play Middlesex for the first time in their history.
The Smartwater Summer Smash starts at 5.30pm, it will be a real family affair down in Pembroke with plenty of entertainment lined up on and off the pitch. Barbecues, ice-cream vans, bouncy castles, live DJ and a special kids’ cricket zone will make it the place to be on the longest day of the year.
There’s now more than 850 tickets already sold so it is shaping up to be a memorable evening as part of Cricket Leinster’s centenary celebrations.
