The Leinster Lightning management are delighted to announce that the Danish National side have accepted our invitation & will play a series of T20 matches this coming April.
The matches will take place in YMCA Cricket Club on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th April. This includes a fixture against the Irish U-19 team who will play Denmark on the morning of the 18th, also in YMCA. The Danes will finish their weekend off with a game against current All Ireland champions The Hills C.C. on Sunday the 19th April in Milverton.
The Lightning Management would like to record their thanks to both YMCA and The Hills for agreeing to host these games so early in the season.
Denmark is currently playing in Division 4 of the ICC World Cricket League, and is coached by former Irish international Jeremy Bray, who last year coached the Lightning in an interim capacity. Jeremy says he is delighted that he has an opportunity to determine how far the squad has progressed since finishing third in the World Cricket League tournament played in Singapore last year, narrowly missing out on promotion to Division 3.
These games will be the first for the Lightning under newly-appointed coach Ted Williamson, who has taken over from Trent Johnston having started his new role with New South Wales in late 2014.
“It’ll be great a way to fine-tune ahead of the first Inter-Provincial game in Stormont on the 1st May against the Northern Knights. That’s also a T20 clash so this comes at an opportune time and we expect two tough matches against a strong Danish outfit who have made impressive strides with Jeremy at the helm”, Williamson said.
