The Leinster Lightning selectors have the pleasure in announcing the following squads for the two upcoming Hanley Energy Inter-Provincial games against the North-West Warriors.
50-Over in Strabane Cricket Club on Sunday the 30th August:
John Mooney (Capt - Balbriggan); John Anderson (Vice-Capt - Merrion); Rory Anders (Phoenix); Joe Carroll (Leinster); George Dockrell (Leinster / Somerset); Dom Joyce (Merrion); Josh Little (Pembroke); Barry McCarthy (Pembroke); Simi Singh (YMCA); Max Sorensen (The Hills); Jack Tector (YMCA); Lorcan Tucker (Pembroke).
Having already secured the 50-over title following a 79 run win over the Knights in Waringstown earlier this month, there is a youthful look to the squad for the final game of the competition with debuts for Rory Anders and Josh Little and the return of Jack Tector from duty with Glamorgan. George Dockrell and Barry McCarthy have also been included in a Lightning squad for the first time this season and Leinster’s Joe Carroll, is selected once again, having been 12th man in the Championship game in Clontarf back in May. Clontarf’s players who are playing a club game in Cork on Saturday have been excused by the selectors for obvious logistical reasons.
The action starts in Strabane at 10:45am on Sunday and admission is free.
3-Day Championship Match in Bready Cricket Club from Tuesday 1st to Thursday 3rd September:
John Mooney (Capt - Balbriggan); John Anderson (Vice-Capt - Merrion); Yaqoob Ali (YMCA); Joe Carroll (Leinster); Fintan McAllister (Malahide); Kevin O’Brien (Railway Union); Andrew Poynter (Clontarf); Eddie Richardson (North County); Simi Singh (YMCA); Max Sorensen (The Hills); Jack Tector (YMCA); Lorcan Tucker (Pembroke).
Kevin O’Brien comes back into the squad after recovering from the hamstring injury which kept him out of the rain-affected draw Stormont earlier this month. Jack Tector and Joe Carroll are the only other additions to the squad, with Adrian D’Arcy and Eoghan Delaney missing out on this occasion, and Tyrone Kane still nursing an injury.
The Lightning are currently in third position in the Championship, 14 and a half points behind the Warriors who top the table but who have played a game more. Victory in this match will set-up a winner-take-all clash against the Northern Knights in Rathmines starting on the 8th September.
Play starts at 10:30am each day and is scheduled to continue till 6:00pm, with no admission charge.
All involved with the Leinster Lightning would like to wish the Irish side the best of luck as they take on World Champions Australia in Stormont tomorrow #COYBIG
