Hi again! It’s hard to believe that we’ve been here for six weeks already. We’re still having a great time and now we’re just making sure we make the most of the last two weeks here.
The week commenced again and the highlight was the inter-house swimming gala. The four of us swam in quite a few events. We placed 3rd and 4th in the majority of the events as we were up against two brothers who are swimming for their country in the months to come. Even though we were wrecked at the end of it, we had a great day.
We played Westering College from Port Elizabeth two weeks ago. The 1st team played at Westering. They won the toss and bowled first. Muir bowled Westering out for 100 with Jack taking one wicket. Muir chased it down for 5 wickets. Jack contributed with a handy 26. The 2nd team played at home where they won the toss and bowled first. Westering finished on 180 all out, with Tom taking 3-18 off his 10 overs. But a batting collapse saw Muir bowled out for 90 in what was a disappointing performance.
The weekend after we played Kingswood from Grahamstown, which is considered one of the finest schools in the country. The 1st played at Kingswood which is magnificent apparently. Kingswood won the toss and batted first. They showed their strength in depth by amassing 320 for 4 declared, with several players making fifties. After a struggle which saw Muir at 16-4, they made it up to 160, and were all out 5 minutes before the close of play. Jack took 1 wicket and made a valiant 14 against some high quality bowling. The 2nd team were at home again and they lost the toss and fielded. Kingswood reached 190 before they were all out. Nick took 2 wickets, Tom took 1-33 off 15 overs and I took four catches behind the stumps. We had a bit of struggle chasing and I got 36 out of our total of 160 all out.
On Sunday we went to Jeffrey’s Bay which is an ideal holiday location, with fantastic views, and waves! The sun was shining and it was a perfect day for the beach. The views were stunning. We had a great time in the sea with the massive waves and at the supertubes in the slides.
On Thursday we went to Thornhill where the B&S factory is located. Tom got a new bat and kit. He and Jack also got their bats cleaned up. We were brought on a tour of the factory and we were shown the process of making a bat. It was an enjoyable day away from school and all of us wished we had more money to spend there!
This Saturday coming we are playing Union High school from Graff Reinet and we are all looking forward to it. We hope we continue to have a great time here at Muir College and we look forward to blogging again soon.
