It was a fine batting performance from Barry McCarthy which set up a 55 run victory for Pembroke in today’s featured game in the SportsHub Senior League Cup.
Having won the toss, Terenure elected to bowl, but Pembroke made a solid start and built a good base primarily around a half century from Robin Kelly who made 52. Aidan Doyle briefly disrupted matters for the home side by taking two wickets in two balls to dismiss Diarmaid Tucker and Theo Lawson.
Wickets for Sadiq Safi and Bhavic Tukrel restricted Pembroke to 130/5 at which point Paul Lawson and McCarthy came together and shared a stand of 68. Lawson was dismissed by Zubair Khan for 20 bringing Joe Prendergast to the crease who made 23 In a stand of 56 with McCarthy before the Irish international was dismissed for 92.
Aidan Doyle took three late wickets to finish with figures of 5/63 from 10 overs, along with Tukrel’s excellent 1/29 off 10 he was the pick of Terenure’s bowlers as Pembroke ran up 271 all out from the final ball of their innings.
Terenure started nicely with boundaries from Séamus Lynch before he lost opening partner Danny Wicks bowled by McCarthy for 5. Henry Dall joined Lynch and the pair shared comfortably the biggest partnership of the innings of 94.
Lynch was dismissed by Piyush Sharma for 70 just after Dall had been given a reprieve by a dropped catch. When Dall was dismissed stumped by some wonderfully smooth legside glovework by Lorcan Tucker from the same bowler, Pembroke turned the screw and Sharma finished his spell 3/39 from 10 overs before Patrick Morris took a brace of wickets to leave the visitors 146/6.
Another wicket from Morris, alongside a brace of dismissals for debutant Donncha Tucker saw Terenure bowled out for 216 and a 55 run victory for Pembroke.
