In a closely contested game Merrion 2nd XI set a commanding total and through constant pressure and excellent fielding defended it by 18 runs.
Batting first, Niranjan Shankar was the mainstay of the innings, making a solid 56 * off 48 balls. He was supported by Grant Glutz with 17 off 24 and skipper Chirag Poddar with 13 vital late runs.
Pick of the bowling for Pembroke was Donncha Tucker (2/27) with skipper Joe Prendergast (1/16) also making a big contribution.
Pembroke set about the chase confidently, with both openers making an impact. Danny Hogan with 17 off 11 and David Cosgrave with 25 including 4 fours. But once that partnership was broken wickets fell regularly as Merrion effected three run outs to highlight their excellent fielding and field placing.
Oisín Bhoja was key here with a run out and 2/13, backed up by Niranjan Shankar with three catches. In the end the run rate was too high and Pembroke lost wickets in attempting the chase.
The large crowd in attendance saw a great game of cricket, on a hot day and on a really well prepared YMCA CC ground. Railway Union stalwart Eddie Tillain was a very welcome addition to the presentation party and it was great to see him present the Trophy named in his honour.
