It is normally towards the end of the season that critical matches that can determine the outcome of leagues emerge. But with their shortened season and double points, Trinity have a number of these each year. The encounter between Merrion and DU is one such match. If DU win they will have in effect six wins out off six and be well on their way to securing one of the two promotion spots. Such an eventuality could also have interesting consequences for teams in D1 were DU to decline promotion.
But before they can even wonder about such things the students have the small matter of overcoming a strong Merrion side. Both teams are missing a player on international duty but the Merrion batting line, minus Ed Joyce, still looks powerful enough to take on a DU attack without George Dockrell.
The students have all their players back from ISC duty and Merrion bring in Rory Allwright as their only change.
