It is about this time of year that we take an overall look at the League Tables to see how the different clubs are performing. Of course there is still much to play for but the halfway stage gives a fair indication of promotion and relegation opportunities.
The highlighted teams below ended up the season in either a promotion or relegation position. Of the teams leading the league at the mid point in 2012, eight of the 14 went on to win their respective leagues. Perhaps more to the point, in only one league did neither team in the relegation spot make the drop.
Last year there was some consolidation in league positions across the clubs with eight 1st XIs [excluding promotion/relegation between D1 and D2] securing promotion while only six were relegated. At the midway stage this year there are seven 1st XI in promotion spots and three in danger of relegation if they don’t improve. This suggests a welcome strengthening of some of the newer clubs.
The League Table for the same period for last year is included below, with the current table for comparison purposes. [Note: DU are leading D2 by virtue of having played all their matches [for double points. I have adjusted the placings to take this into account].
