Balbriggan 2 vs Phoenix 2 - No preview as waiting on scorecard of Cork Harlequins 1 vs Phoenix 2 (August 12)
Railway Union 2 vs Malahide 2 - Time is running out for both Railway and Malahide in the 2nd XI Premier League if they want to lift the 2023 title. Malahide have four games left, with Pembroke, Clontarf and North County to play after today. Railway have to play Clontarf and Merrion - if either side could win all their games they are going to be there and thereabouts. Incredibly, Railway's last home win against Malahide was all the way back in 2012 - they have lost the last six. Muhammad Farooq was the only Railway player to get past 25 in that match as Railway made 241/8, with Sam Cassidy taking 3-24. Malahide got close thanks to Richard Reed's 55* from number 7, but Carlo Rendell's 3-47 was enough to dent Malahide's progress, Railway winning by 9 runs.
Clontarf 2 vs YMCA 2 - Like many other games yesterday, Clontarf's 2nd XI Premier League game against Leinster was rained off, which doesn't make too much difference at the bottom of the league. Clontarf are now 9 points behind YMCA with two games in hand, and a win today would put Clontarf in a very strong position when it comes to avoiding relegation. Similarly, a YMCA win would put them 30+ points ahead of Clontarf, although Tarf would still have those games in hand. YMCA have an excellent record in the league in Castle Avenue, winning five of the last six matches. Last August's game saw a win for Clontarf by 5 wickets, thanks to 5-26 for Cillian McDonnell and a steady 43 from Zac Maron. YMCA made only 147 batting first with McDonnell taking five wickets against his former club - at the time, his best bowling for Clontarf. It took Clontarf 42.3 overs to pass YMCA, but they got there in the end.
Pembroke 2 vs Leinster 2 - The 12.5 points that Leinster got from their abandoned 2nd XI Premier League match against Clontarf yesterday edges them to safety without taking them over the line. They have a tough task today against leaders Pembroke 2. Pembroke have a 12 point lead over 2nd place Merrion, with two more games after today, and really need to win all three matches. Leinster haven't won a league game in Sydney Parade since August 2019, when Pembroke made 240/9, with Scott Ruttle scoring 55 and Tanvir Hasan making 4-18, his best bowling in a 49 match career for North Kildare and North County. Rain then intervened, with Leinster chasing 192/3 in 37.4 overs with Craig Mackay scoring 62*.
The Hills 2 vs Merrion 3 - No preview as waiting on scorecard of Cork Harlequins 1 vs Phoenix 2 (August 12)
Swords 5 vs Pembroke 6 - A match to be played without the worry of league standings as Pembroke (4th) take on Swords (7th) in this Division 20 clash. It should be said that Pembroke have multiple games in hand, and the title is not beyond them if they were to win perhaps four of their last five games. Last August's match between the sides saw Rian O'Neill score 41 for Pembroke as they made 169 all out, with Asher Joseph taking 3-19 for Swords. In reply, Will Legoe took 4-27 as Swords were reduced to 110/9, before a last wicket partnership of 60 saw Swords home, Elton Shaji scoring 18*.
Civil Service 4 vs Castleknock 2 - A Division 9 match that is all about who will get the second relegation place. Dublin University 2 are already relegated, and the winners today should be just about safe. It would be very unusual for a team to be relegated with five wins, but it could happen in Division 9. This is Civil Service's last match and they are 131 points. Adamstown 3 play Castleknock next week and both sides will know what they need to do to overtake Service. Castleknock haven't beaten Civil Service in any of their three previous ties, with two Castleknock wins and a tie. The reverse fixture on June 10 this year saw a record breaking chase by Castleknock. Civil Service made a solid 243/9 with Manohar HS top scoring with 52 and Simran Singh taking 3/61 for Castleknock. Castleknock then made it to 151/1 with Wasiq Ansari scoring 72 and Malik Aziz 69, before a mini-collapse saw them fall to 169/4, Prashil Wanjari taking 4-39. But Castleknock bounced back with four more batters passing 20, winning by 4 wickets with 10 balls to spare. It was Castleknock 2's third biggest chase ever - their biggest being a couple of weeks earlier. scoring 260/4 against The Hills 3 on May 20
Athlone 2 vs Laois 3 - No preview as waiting for result of Laois 3 vs Greystones 3 (yesterday)
Ongar 1 vs Merrion 6 - Division 14 leaders Ongar 1 are edging to the league title, but with four games left, they still have a bit more work to do - they currently need another 31 points to guarantee the title. Merrion are in 7th place at the other end of the table, and with teams around them having games in hand, need to win at least two of their last three matches. The only previous league match between the teams was on May 14th this year. Majid Hyder scored 41 for Merrion in a match shortened to 30 overs by rain, Merrion making 112/7. Ongar didn't exactly cruise to victory as Rishabh Sharma took 3-31, but Sai Kiran Padmanabuni's 32* resuced them from 60/5 to win with 27 balls to spare.
Sandyford 3 vs North Kildare 6 - No preview as waiting on scorecard of North Kildare 6 vs Clondalkin 3 (June 11)
Ashbourne 2 vs Slieve Bloom 1 - No preview as waiting on result of Malahide 5 vs Ashbourne 2 (yesterday)
Phoenix 6 vs Balbriggan 4 - Phoenix had their Division 17 match against Naas rained off yesterday, whilst Balbriggan beat Lucan 3 by 5 wickets. That isn't much use for Phoenix who need wins (but are still not relegated). Balbriggan's win keeps their slim chances of promotion alive. It doesn't need to be said that both desperately need a win today, with Balbriggan the more likely. The reverse fixture on July 2 this year saw Phoenix dismissed for only 64, with Druhan Knight taking 4-23 - his second four wicket haul of his career to which he has subsequently added a third. Balbriggan were 6/3 (Shabahat Shah taking 3-12) before Shahid Khan's 33* got Balbriggan home in 11.1 overs.
Carlow 2 vs Clontarf 6 - With Carlow match against Athlone 3 in Division 15 yesterday being rained off (and having to be refixed) not much has changed. Clontarf 6 need to win their last game, and then hope Civil Service fail to win any of their last four matches. Carlow are still close to the title, but can't wrap it up today. The teams played two weeks ago in Mount Temple School with Carlow running out big winners. Syed Raza made 92 for Carlow (a career high), and Mohammed Ismail 2 67 as Carlow made an impressive 272 all out, Naveen Bachani taking 3-36 for Clontarf. Muhammad Uzair Khan struck 63 (the third time he had passed 50 for Clontarf, but the first he hadn't converted into a hundred) but Pardeep Hooda's 3-19 spearheaded a decent Carlow performance with the ball, bowling Clontarf out for 134.
Laois 1 vs Civil Service 2 - Civil Service's 50 run DLS win over North Kildare in Division 5 hasn't made too much difference to the bottom half the league. Civil Service edge closer to safety in 5th, and with Laois in 4th, whoever wins today will be safe. Promotion is out of their collective sights though. Two league matches in 2022 are the totality of their historic rivalry. Each won their home match, with Laois winning by 7 wickets in Stradbally. Mathew Auret took 4-22 (only his fourth four wicket haul for Laois since 2010) as Service were bowled out for 110. Jalal Hussain then top scored for Laois in an easy chase, passing the required total in 24 overs.
Rush 2 vs Sandyford 1 - A Division 5 match with major implications at either end of the table. Sandyford are 47 points behind Adamstown 1 at the top, but have two games in hand with five games to play. The ball is in Sandyford's court - if they win their remaining games with maximum points, they win the league, but as we know life is not that simple and they will drop points at some stage. Rush are at the other end of the table, and have three games to play. Clontarf 3 are already relegated and Rush will definitely have to win one of their remaining matches - perhaps two. After the teams playing each other 12 times between 2011 and 2017 (Rush 6 - 6 Sandyford) they haven't played since. The last match played in Kenure (in April 2017) saw Sandyford score 157, with Waleed Zafar scoring 54* from number 10. It is the only 50 on record for any Sandyford number 10. Rush made short work of the chase, winning by 9 wickets, with Eon Sheehan scoring 66, Patrick Monks 57* and Niall Mullen 23*
North Kildare 4 vs Lucan 2 - No preview as waiting for result of Adamstown 4 vs Phoenix 5 (yesterday)
North County 4 vs Naas 1 - No preview as waiting for result of Tyrrelstown 2 vs North County 4 (yesterday)
Castleknock 3 vs Terenure 4 - No preview as waiting for result of Wicklow County 2 vs Terenure 4 (yesterday)
Wicklow County 1 vs Railway Union 4 - Wicklow County are already relegated from Division 10, so the interest in this match is whether Railway Union can lift the title and/or get promoted at the other end. Railway have two games remaining, and are 4 points behind Laois in second and 14 points behind leaders Leinster, who have played on game more. Railway's last game is away to Laois, so two wins will give them the Division 10 title. The reverse fixture was played as a T20 on August 11, with Railway winning by 7 wickets. Wicklow could only make 80/8 with Amit Tyagi top scoring with 16. Railway made short work of it (despite being 6/2) as Qasim Ishaq made 37*, Railway winning in 15 overs.
Terenure 2 vs Leinster 3 - No preview as waiting for result of Carlow 1 vs Leinster 3 (yesterday)
Merrion 5 vs Tyrrelstown 2 - No preview as waiting for result of Tyrrelstown 2 vs North County 4 (yesterday)
Mullingar 1 vs Longford 1 - Longford 1 could win Division 6 today, depending on how Terenure 2 fare against Leinster 3. Longford just have to score more points today than Terenure do, and they will be champions. Mullingar still have an outside chance of promotion but need other to lose points - namely Carlow 1 and Terenure 2, as well as winning all their games. The pair have never completed a league game, with all three previous results being in the YMCA Salver - and all being won by Longford. In the only match to be played in Mullingar, Stephen Pulbrook top scored with 49 as Mullingar made 154/5. But Longford romped home with 24 balls to spare, Hamza Hamayun hitting a 28 ball 57*.
Lucan 1 vs North Kildare 3 - A much anticipated Division 9 clash, as leaders North Kildare go to St Catherine's Park to play second place Lucan. A win for North Kildare will see them crowned as Division 9 champions for 2023, their first league title since winning Division 8 in 2019. Lucan have to win, and if they do they may also have to beat Ashbourne in the last game of the season, even to guarantee promotion. To win the title, they would still need North Kildare to slip up in their last game against The Hills. In the May 2017 encounter, Lucan's all time leading run scorer, Ali Hashmi scored 69*, as Lucan were bowled out for 176 with Amarbir Singh taking 3-46. WHen North Kildare were 74/4, the game was very much in the balance, when Shahbaz Ahmed started his spell, ending up with 4-35 as North Kildare were bowled out for 145.
Adamstown 2 vs Civil Service 3 - No preview as waiting on result of Civil Service 3 vs Phoenix 3 (yesterday)
Clondalkin 1 vs Athlone 1 - No preview as waiting on scorecard of Bagenalstown 1 vs Athlone 1 (August 19)
Greystones 4 vs The Hills 5 - The Development league/Division 20 continues slowly towards its conclusion, with Greystones in 5th place with three games remaining and The Hills up in third with four matches still to play. The gap of 52 points between The Hills and leaders Adamstown 8 looks too much despite being mathematically possible to close. The one previous match between the teams was in May 2022, with The Hills winning by 5 wickets. Kavin Venkatesan scored 20 for Greystones but they could only make 106 all out, Brandon Vincenzo Sebastian taking 3-20 for The Hills. In reply, Hayden Clinton (25), Christopher Francis (21) and Joseph Russell (22) all scored well as The Hills won in 30 overs.
Halverstown 2 vs Leinster 6 - A crucial game at the bottom of Division 19, where a win for Halverstown will guarantee their safety for the year. Leinster 6 have four games remaining and probably need to win two of them to be safe. The teams met for the first time ever on August 6 with Halverstown running out winners by 20 runs. Sean Conroy hit 91* (his first score higher than 30 in 23 matches for Halverstown since 2016) and Adriaan van Wyk 54 (his maiden Halverstown 50 in his fourth match for the club) as Halverstown made 204/4. Leinster's batting consistent without ever looking like surpassing Halverstown's total - 45 from Asad Malik and 46 from Daniel Lydon getting them to 184/5.
Adamstown 5 vs Wexford Wanderers 2 - Wexford's win over Gorey 1 last week continues to give them an excellent chance of promotion. Tyrrelstown 3 are probably their big rival, 62 points behind but with two games in hand. Adamstown have only won two matches on the field, and could do with another one to make sure they are safe. Wexford Wanderers won the reverse fixture on August 6th by 22 runs. Prasanth Pillai and Eugene Brennan made 29 each as Wexford made 138 all out, Avinash Avinash taking 3-21 for Adamstown. That was a useful total in Wexford and six Wexford bowlers chipped in with wickets, only Vignesh Rajendran passing 20 (with 33*) as Adamstown were bowled out for 116.
Knockharley 3 vs The Hills 4 - Knockharley need one - perhaps two wins from their remaining three Division 16 matches to avoid relegation, with Pembroke 5 snapping at their heels. The Hills are in third place, only 19 points behind Wicklow County in 2nd, and with four matches for them still to play, anything is possible. The only previous meeting between the teams was on June 4 this year. Knockharley's total of 241 all out was mainly due to a 125 run partnership between Rajesh Adi (57) and Muhammad Tahir Rasheed (91). The Hills started well in reply, reaching 145/2, with 53 from Peter Stead. But Muhammad Afaq's 4-34 ripped out the middle order and from 184/6, The Hills just had too much to do, losing by 26 runs.
Tyrrelstown 1 vs Castleknock 1 - Tyrrelstown enter their busiest part of the Division 7 season, with five matches to be played between now and the end of the season. Three wins from those five should be enough to win the title - but that would be dependent on them beating leaders Castleknock today. If Castleknock were to win their last two matches, they would be somewhere around 215 points, and Tyrrelstown would need to win three of their last four to catch them. The reverse fixture on May 20 would point to a Castleknock win, after a convincing 80 run win last time. Masrat Naveed Aslam top scored for Castleknock with 43 as they made 193 all out, Sachin Dev and Suresh Kumar Madhikanti both taking three wickets. At 36/0, Tyrrelstown must have been feeling confident, before wickets from all the Castleknock attack reduced Tyrrelstown to 55/4, 100/7 and 113 all out. Shahbaz Ahmed took 3-15 to hasten the end.
