Athlone 3 vs Carlow 3 - After visiting Leinster yesterday in the first Adamstown Cup match, Athlone today host Carlow 3. There have been three previous meetings between the clubs, all between their 2nd teams, with Athlone winning two of them. Today's clash sees the 24th (Athlone) and 31st (Carlow) ranked 3rd teams face off.
Laois 1 vs Railway Union 2 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Merrion 7 vs Ongar 2 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Leinster 2 vs Rush 2 - Leinster 2 and Rush 2 meet for the second day in a row. Check out yesterday's match centre for a preview of yesterday's match.
North County 3 vs Phoenix 4 - Phoenix 4 start their Middle Cup campaign against a North County side who played their first match on Saturday. North County won four consexutice matches between the sides between 2019 and May 2022, before Phoenix 4 won their last two encounters, including last year's Middle Cup final in Inch, which Phoenix won by 3 runs thanks mainly due to Anudeep Yalamuru who scored 41 and then took 2-22.
North Kildare 6 vs Tyrrelstown 5 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Pembroke 2 vs Malahide 2 - A fixture that has Malahide only winning two from eleven, with their last win being back in 2016, and neither of those two victories being in Sydney Parade. Malahide have been slowly improving over the last few seasons, and after being as low as the 10th ranked 2nd Xi in the province in 2018, they finished as the second best last year, a position they hadn't held since 2006. However, Pembroke are not too bad themselves - the third best 2nd team last year, and they haven't been out of the top 5 since 2005. These teams haven't met in the Tillain Cup in the last 12 seasons, but in all matches the higherst score is Scott Ruttle's 109 for Pembroke in 2021, and the best bowling is Glenn Kirwan's 7-14 for Malahide in 2016.
Balbriggan 2 vs Wexford Wanderers 1 - Balbriggan 2 start their Division 4 season, whilst Wexford Wanderers 2 have their second attempt, after their first match against Merrion 3 was rained off last weekend. The last five matches between the sides have been won by the team batting second, with last year's two matches being won by the away side. The highest score in the fixture is Nithin Padmaprabhu's 105 for Wexford in 2021, whilst the best bowling is Sean Graham's 6-19 for Wexford last June.
Swords 5 vs The Hills 5 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Terenure 4 vs Swords 3 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Clontarf 2 vs Merrion 2 -The last time these two met in the Tillain Cup resulted in a Conor Gallagher (5-13) inspired win for Tarf in 2019. But we don't have to go too far back in time to give us a decent form guide - Merrion were in Castle Avenue last week, and walked away with a convincing 9 wicket win, thanks to a Forkin inspired performance (Peter 2-18 and Daniel 3-13 and 41*). It will be some performance for Clontarf to turn that around in a week.
Railway Union 3 vs Terenure 2 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Malahide 4 vs Balbriggan 3 - Malahide 4's third league match aleady, with a rained off game against Clontarf 5 on Easter Monday and a loss to Pembroke 4 two weeks ago. Balbriggan 3 were rained off in their first game away to Laois 2 last week. No matches between the two teams, so a look at the team's leading performers. For Malahide 4, their top run scorer is Brian Gilmore with 2125 runs at 41.67, with the leading wicket taker being Inderjit Singh with 121 wickets at 18.17. For Balbriggan 3, the leaders are Colm Reilly (1516 at 39.89) and Ifti Sabir (93 at 15.75)
Swords 4 vs Finglas 3 - These two teams both play their first match in this year's Minor Cup. Both teams already have a league win against their name, and this promises to be a tight one. They played three times in 2021, with Finglas winning two of the three matches.
Lucan 1 vs Kilkenny 1 - Lucan 1 (ranked 36 amongst 1st teams) host Kilkenny 1 (ranked 32nd) in both side's opening game in this year's Middle Cup. Kilkenny won the one previous meeting, thanks to a century from Kilkenny's Zeeshan Mumtaz. He has started 2023 well, scoring 107 at 53.5 already.
Mullingar 3 vs Clondalkin 3 - Mullingar 3 play their first Minor Cup match this year; Clondalkin 3 played Rush 4 yesterday. It is another match that is too close to call. Two matches between the sides last year were shared, and even though Mullingar 3 are in Division 17 (one rained off match so far), Clondalkin 3 are only just below them, although they lost to Swords 4 on the first weekend of the season. The teams only finished two places apart in the league in 2022.
Knockharley 2 vs Civil Service 4 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Tyrrelstown 4 vs Civil Service 5 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Phoenix 2 vs Sandyford 1 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Adamstown 2 vs The Hills 2 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Sandyford 2 vs Rush 3 - Rush play their first game in this year's Whelan Cup, but Sandyford are now half way through their fixtures after today's game. They had a good away win to Swords 2 last week, before games on Saturday and Sunday against North County 4. It has been a busy weekend! The teams last met back in 2018, when Rush won both the Division 11 matches that year, the stand out performances for Rush being Amir Iqbal (5-24) and Jack McGee (74) in the home match and McGee again (62*) and Noman Shahid (5-30) in the away match. Perhaps not surprisingly, McGee has the second highest batting average of any player in the province against Sandyford 2 - 136 runs at 136. The surprise is that anyone is higher - stand up The Hills' Jason Magee with an incredible 258 runs against Sandyford 2 whilst only being dismissed once.
The Hills 4 vs Sandyford 3 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Bagenalstown 1 vs Tyrrelstown 1 - Tyrrelstown play their second LHK Insurance Middle Cup game of the weekend, with a trip to Bagenalstown 1, who are starting their season. Bagenalstown 1 have had a fair amount of league success over the years, but have yet to win a cup final, with Tyrrelstown 1 similarly only having the 2017 Division 15 title to their name. It is a first ever meeting between the first teams ranked 30th (Bagenalstown) and 31st (Tyrrelstown), a stat which shows how close today should be.
Civil Service 2 vs YMCA 2 - A fixture that would have been unthinkable only a few years ago. In 2018, Civil Service 2 finished 74th in the league (winning Division 10, but at a fairly low ebb). That same year, YMCA 2 finished 3rd in Division 3, 56 places above their opponents today. Fast forward five years, and they meet in both side's first match in the 2023 LHK Insurance Tillain Cup
Longford 1 vs YMCA 3 - YMCA last won the Salver presented in their name back in 1988, and there is a reasonable chance the will win again in 2023. They are one of the Division 4 teams in the draw, and face Longford 1 who are down in Division 6. The teams played seven times between 2017 and 2019, with Longford winning five of them. The highest score in the fixture is Wilhelm de Klerk's 91* in 2018, whilst the best bowling is Mikey O'Reilly's 4-23, also in 2018.
Castleknock 1 vs Greystones 1 - Both teams played against Pembroke 3 on Saturday, and meet today in their second YMCA Salver match. Castleknock have won the last three matches between the teams, although with six matches across 2022 and 2021 (Greystones winning two) it is perhaps unfair to just concentrate on three of them. Castleknock have lost their first two league matches in Division 7, and Greystones must have a chance of breaking the three wins in a row for Castleknock.
Pembroke 2 vs Leinster 2 - Leinster 2 have lost the last five matches against Pembroke 2, but if we drill down, their record isn't quite so bad. Their four Tillain Cup meetings have been shared, and the two Tillain matches in Sydney Parade have both gone Leinster's way. That was a four run win in 2020, and a five wicket win in 2012. Lorcan Tucker top scored for Pembroke that day with 33, Kim Garth took 0-9 from two overs, and Gareth Delany took 2-12 from 5 overs. Who from today's match will be playing international cricket in 11 years time?
North County 6 vs Lucan 3 - Both teams played against Pembroke 5 yesterday ,which should give a good guide as to the outcome of today's game. Lucan 3 ar ethe higher league team - Division 17 as opposed to Division 18. As a club North County have only played two matches in the Minor Cup (2011 onwards and before this weekend), winning one and drawing one. Lucan had never played as a club in the Minor Cup before this weekend.
Leinster 3 vs Merrion 3 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
North Kildare 3 vs Adamstown 3 - North Kildare got off to a great start last week, beating Balbriggan 3, and they face another 3rd team today - Adamstown. The pair met in last year's Intermediate Cup with North Kildare winning by 48 runs.
Athlone 2 vs Carlow 2 - Athlone 2 playing their fourth game of the weekend, which must be some kind of record. They take on Carlow 2, who have yet to start their Russell Court Trophy season. Both teams have had a win from their first Division 15 match of the season, so confidence abounds. The teams played three times in 2022, with Athlone winning two.
Merrion 5 vs Mullingar 2 - A first ever match between the two teams. Merrion 5 twice have their name on the Whelan Cup, winning it in 2004 and 2009. Mullingar 2 have four trophies in their history, but never in a T20 competition. Mullingar have a 4-13 record in the Whelan Cup, whilst Merrion 5 are 2-5 (Merrion 6 have a 9-8 record, and Merrion 7, 2-1)
Laois 3 vs Railway Union 5 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
Clontarf 6 vs Ongar 1 - Ongar play their first natch in the Junior Cup, whilst Clontarf 6 were away to Malahide 5 yesterday. With this being Ongar's first year in existence, the team's don't have a great history to trawl through! Clontarf 6 have a 3-6 record in the Junior Cup. Clontarf play four divisions above Ongar (Division 15 as opposed to Division 19), and that suggests Clontarf to win. But as with all new teams, Ongar could well be at too low a leevl in the league - they won their first league game by 8 wickets in the first week of the season.
Phoenix 5 vs Greystones 2 - No preview, as previous matches this season involving these teams still to be processed.
