Cricket Leinster is delighted to announce that Orla Prendergast of Pembroke Cricket Club has won the Harrison Cup for leading bowling average in the Sprint Coatings Women’s Division 1 for 2020.
With the season curtailed to just 6 league games, Prendergast took her wickets with a single-figure bowling average of 9.86 runs and an economy of just 3.63 runs per over. She bowled all but one of her available overs this season across the five games she appeared in.
Anna Kerrison was the closest pursuer to Prendergast, with her wickets coming at an average of 10 while there was a bit of a gap back to the next closest, Merrion pair Rebecca Stokell and Niamh McNulty whose wickets were taken at averages of 14.33 and 14.8 respectively.
This award caps off a year of good news for Orla Prendergast, who has also performed excellently in the Super Series this summer. She was awarded a part-time Cricket Ireland contract in August after Kim Garth’s departure had been confirmed, and was then included on the list of part-time contracts for 2021 when they were announced last month.
2020 was Prendergast’s first season as Pembroke 1st XI captain and her form with the ball helped lead her team to a respectable 3rd place finish having won the same number of games as Merrion who finished 2nd in the league.
Congratulations from all at Cricket Leinster to Orla on winning the Harrison Cup for the 2020 season!
