Cricket Leinster is delighted to confirm the winners of the Sprint Coatings Women’s Division 3 batting and bowling awards for the 2020 season.
Firstly, the Sharp Cup (which was presented by Mary Sharp) is the batting Award and it goes to Eimear Mullen of Pembroke CC who was dismissed just once in the year and made the only half-century in Division 3 this season. This came in a comprehensive 56-run victory over Leinster 3 early in the season.
Fellow Pembroke batters Gayle Bowen (29) and Mhairi Nicoll (26.5) were the other players in the league to average greater than 25 for the season, showing just how well Pembroke built their league-winning campaign around some solid batting efforts.
Next, the Schmidt Cup (which was presented by Barbara Schmidt) which is for the leading bowler in Division 3, has been awarded to Lauren Wilde of Rush CC who managed to take her wickets at an incredible average of just 3.17 this season. To make that even more impressive, her economy was down at a staggering 2.38, something many bowlers would only dream of in 50-over cricket, never mind a season of T20!
Trailing Wilde were Lauren Maxwell of Clontarf, who averaged a wicket every 5.2 runs, and Rush team-mate Ellie McGee who took a wicket every 8.29 runs, both with economies of 3.6 and below, and with stats that would be good enough to take home awards in other years. This really puts into perspective how good a season it was for Lauren Wilde.
Congratulations from all at Cricket Leinster to Eimear and Lauren, winners of the Sharp and Schmidt Cups for Sprint Coatings Women’s Division 3 for the 2020 season!
