Twelve-year-old Ruby Neville performed with the bat and ball to help Merrion U15's to what ended as a comfortable victory for the southsiders.
Merrion reached 125 for three from their 20 overs. Player of the Match Neville opened the batting with fellow U13 player Elena Tice and while Tice had to retire on 35, Ruby played stayed solid at the other end, eventually out caught behind for 23.
Sorcha Breslin and captain Hannah McCay then impressed with very clever running between the wickets, getting singles off most balls. They ended on 19 not-out and 18 respectively. The pick of the Rush bowlers was E Conway who took two wickets for 29 runs from her five overs.
Rush started well and while the Sandymount bowlers struggled to find their line, the Northsiders piled on the runs, reaching 32 from just five overs. Merrion then tightened up in the field and Rush began to struggle to get the ball away.
Neville and Tice came on to bowl the second 10-over spell, and Neville's tight bowling truly took the game away from the Northsiders. Three run-outs proved costly for Rush and they could only reach 93 for five. E Conway again performed, batting the 20 overs for 34 runs.
The future is bright for this Merrion team as every player will be available to play at this age-level again next year. Rush also have a young team and will hope to take the trophy away from Merrion in 2012.
