As the evenings draw in and with the dust well settled on the league campaigns for the 2016 season, the time has come to reflect on the performances of the different clubs around Leinster. Of course statistics can only tell part of the story. From a club perspective, survival in a higher league may represent as great an achievement as winning promotion in a lower league. All one can do is record what happened and let the audience judge the results.
This year we have looked at the performance from a number of different perspectives. Paul Reynolds will later release the end year figures for the all-Ireland club [1st XI] table, based on three years of results and using a formula adopted by the ICC. For the Leinster club competitions we will look at the win/loss ratio for each club and the final league positions across all the leagues.
But of course leagues and cups are there to be won so before we start applying any formulae we should first acknowledge the 16 league and cup winners. To give a sense of how clubs have done we have included details on all Cricket Ireland and Cricket Leinster competitions [shaded colours with the team number].
Looking at the most successful teams in terms of trophies won and their league dominance. In the league two teams Knockharley [D5] and Balbriggan II [D8] went through the season without a loss. Knockharley had a 27% point lead over the next team in the league, Balbriggan a massive 40% point gap. Balbriggan also had cup success adding the Middle II Cup to the D11 league. However, the two most successful sides overall, winning all three competitions they entered, must be Ringcommons, whose 1st XI won the OCD11, the Middle II Cup and the Whelan 20/20 Cup and the AIB who won OCD16, the Minor II Cup and the Russell Court 20/20.
Trophies were well spread around with 11 different clubs winning Cup / T20 competitions and 14 winning leagues. Overall 20, exactly half the clubs in the OC managed to get their hands on some hardware.
Finally, it is worth noting the number of 1st XI teams that were successful across the divisions and competitions.
