The proposal below was put to the 16 clubs with teams in the Division 1 and 2 leagues in the 2016 season and votes on it requested.
"For the 2016 season the following will apply. The team finishing last in Division 1 will be relegated to Division 2 for 2017 and will be replaced by the team winning Division 2. A play-off match will be played between the teams finishing second last in Division 1 and runners-up in Division 2. The play-off match will be played on Saturday 10th September 2016 in Claremont Rd, with the normal competition regulations. The winner of this play-off match will play in Division 1 in 2017 and the loser in Division 2. If, for whatever reason, no result to this game can be achieved, the current promotion/relegation arrangement (i.e. as in 2015) will apply."
Having now given ample opportunity to clubs to vote and issued several reminders, I can announce the following result.
Clubs in favour - 10
Clubs opposed - 4
Clubs giving no response - 2
Since there is a clear majority in favour of the proposal, it will be incorporated into the regulations for 2016. Discussion can continue at suitable fora as to what the system should be for future seasons.
