Although it will take some time to overtake DU [DU play for double points in their matches], Leisnter and Balbriggan are puulling away from the pack and if they continue with their present form should pass the students in the 11th or 12th rounds of the competition. With one match still to play in the first cycle of matches, Leinster are favourites to make the turn in the lead but it is still everything to play for between the two clubs. This year of course the winners of D2 get automatic promotion to D1 while the second placed side have a play-off.
In terms of the promotion race the next question is whether any other teams can get into contention. Cork and Rush, both teams who have a good run of wins recently, look most likely to challenge for one of the top two spots. But the latter have still to play Leinster in a refix and that could have a major bearing on the outcome of the promotion chase. Malahide also have an outside chance but with four losses are probably too far behind to make up a two win margin against the top teams.
This finally leaves Terenure and N Kildare to battle it out to avoid the bottom spot.
An unoffical league table is set out below. This is taken from the summary results as not all the scorecards have been processed as yet. There may be some adjustment in bonus points due to D/L but overall the table shoud be about right. But once again it is an unofficial table.
