With just over half the season completed it is time to take a look at the current state of the Open Competition averages [leagues D3 - D17 and related cups]. There have been a lot of runs this season so far with four players scoring over 500 [12th July]. Arjun Chandrasekar [DLR County] leads the way on 587. Manapreet Singh [North Kildare] has the best average, and the only one over 50, among the nine players who qualify with over 400 runs.
On the bowling front the threshold has been set at 20 wickets and 14 players qualify. Vidit Sukhramani [Merrion] tops the table with 35 wickets, with Vijay Kumar the only player with a bowling average below 10. He is also the only player to have an economy rate below 3.
Chirag Poddar [Merrion] tops the list of wicket keepers, with 12 players reaching the threshold of 10 dismissals. Four players have taken 10 or more catches in the field - Amir Khan [Laois] with 12, Declan Ashley [Mullingar] with 11 and Killian McGrane and Lorcan Woodhouse both from The Hills and on 10.
What is perhaps most notable about the averages is how well spread they are across the clubs.
