So what are the main outcomes from a pretty soggy weekend.
The big winners in D1 are Clontarf and Phoenix. The former is moving steadily towards the D1 title and have now built up a commanding lead over their rivals. One more win will do it. Phoenix now look comfortable to stay in D1 with five wins. Merrion still have four matches to play - with refixes against YMCA [this week] and Railway. These two matches will likely determine the play-off and automatic relegation spots.
In D2, Leinster have at last overtaken Dublin University and now looks odds on to take the title. Balbriggan had an important win over North Kildare and they are 28 points behind the students with two matches to play. They could get there with only one win if they got a reasonable number of bonus points. Cork County [with a game to be refixed] have two matches in hand so can overtake Balbriggan and DU but they have to put together a lot of good results. It could still come down to the last match of the season between Cork and Balbriggan.
Nothing got played in D3 last weekend so there is no change at the top. YMCA II have a comfortable lead, followed by Merrion II. Interestingly two to the clubs also fighting to avoid relegation from D1. Also nothing in D4 [at least nothing reported as played] but it is doubtful if anyone can catch Phoenix II who have a solid lead over The Hills II and Civil Service.
Knockharley haven’t lost a match all season so are well ahead in D5 with 91%. Phoenix III beat last placed Malahide III and are battling it out with Leinster III for the second promotion spot. Too close to call. In the only match played in D6, Merrion V beat Railway Union III. This is a damaging loss for Railway who are t[Longford and Rush II, all vying for the title and promotion. Before the weekend Merrion were lying 6th and this may move them up a place and will certainly create space between them and the two bottom teams - North County III and Terenure II.
