Following the article on the age profile of the players in Open Competitions* we turn today to the breakdown of figures based on where they learnt their cricket.
Out of just over 1600 players who have donned the whites [or other colours] so far this year - less than 50% - 770 have indicated that there origin i.e. where they learnt to play cricket, was in Ireland. If you take out the number of youth players, and adjust the overall participation figures, this brings the proportion of adult cricketers currently playing who came through the Irish system to below 40%.
The overall percentages can vary a little depending on how you treat the relatively small number of youth players [of the order of 30] who have given their cricketing origins as outside of Ireland. However the overall picture does not change much. The breakdown for all players in Open Competitions [June 2015] by cricket origin is set out in the chart below.
*A breakdown of figures for youth cricket will follow. Just waiting for exam period to end to get more relevant data.
