Cricket Leinster is delighted to confirm the winners of the batting and bowling awards for Sprint Coatings Women’s Division 4 for the 2020 season.
The batting award for the 2020 season has gone to Carol MacKenzie of Railway Union, who managed 142 runs at an average of 71 for the league-winners this season. Possibly something of a surprise is that MacKenzie wasn’t the only batter to average more than 50 in Division 4 this season, the feat was also achieved by Pembroke’s Nicky Bell who averaged 60, and Greystones’ Angela Garland with 51.5.
The highlights from a Railway point of view were that MacKenzie managed to secure the bulk of her runs with two big scores against the league’s nearest challengers, Greystones. Having made 41 in Park Avenue in the first game of the season, she then made a crucial 39* in Druids Glen in a tied game which helped keep Railway in the driving seat to a successful league campaign.
Meanwhile, the bowling cup has been awarded to Eimear Linehan also of Railway Union. Her haul of 12 wickets was twice as many as her next closest challenger in terms of wickets taken, whilst her average of 5.75 runs conceded per wicket, was less than half the next closest! To complete the clean sweep, Linehan had also got the best economy of all bowlers who qualified for this award, at 3.31.
Next closest to Linehan were the Greystones pair of Lynne Rae, who took 6 wickets at an average of 12.33, and Alexandra Orpin, with 6 wickets at 13.83.
Linehan’s highlight of the season was in no doubt the league’s only 5-wicket-haul of the year, when defending 128 against Terenure, she opened the bowling and completed a fantastic spell of 5 overs 5/7, helping her side wrap up a comfortable victory.
Congratulations to Carol and Eimear on winning the batting and bowling cups for Sprint Coatings Women’s Division 4 for the 2020 season!
