As we approach the start of the season and the relaunch of the interprovincial series, we have been putting together records from the last time the Leinster and South / North Leinster competed in competition. From 1966 to 2004 [though the six team series normally refered to as the Guinness Cup only lasted until 1994] teams representing the provinces took part in interprovincial competition in a number of formats.
The most successful team throughout this period was the North West [eight outright wins and twice shared trophy] but no team really dominated and North Leinster [6/1] and South Leinster [5] also had their share of victories. in the final years the South won once, Leinster once also, with one shared. It will be interesting to see if the balance of power in Irish cricket has changed in the last decade.
In terms of individual performances by Leinster players, Ginger O'Brien [2380] has the most runs [also played and captained more maches than anyone else] and Alf Masood the best average [69.10], highest score [196*] and most centuries [5]. Alan Lewis had most scores over 50 [15]. The bowling records are dominated by Northern players with Mike Halliday with 191 wickets the most successful from the South.
