The number of players who have registered to play cricket for the 2014 season has passed the 1000 mark. There is still a couple of weeks before the season kicks off in earnest but with a couple of enthusiastic clubs getting started this weekend, and more next weekend, there is really no reason to delay further. Players must be registered to play and to be included in starring lists.
A number of clubs have already submitted lists of players for registration. The clubs are as follows: Balbriggan, Cabinteely, Clontarf, Cork County, Evening Herald, Lucan, Malahide, Merrion, Railway Union, and Slieve Bloom. Other clubs will be submitting player lists over the next few days so please check with your club if you are uncertain about what to do.
The breakdown of registrations by club is set out below. Youth numbers given are included in the total registered figure. There are still a number of players who have only partially registered and need to complete the process. Some of these have been delayed by problems with Internet Explorer V8 [We understand that this is now sorted so please try again. Similarly for people who have had issues with some mobiles. If you are still encountering problems please let us know. ]
Although we do not have the full figures an interesting picture is beginning to emerge. Of the adult players registered, 53% learnt their cricket in Ireland. By far the biggest other source of players is India with 19%, followed by Pakistan [11%], UK [7%] and South Africa [4%]. What is striking about the figures is the contribution made by players from the Indian Subcontinent [including Sri Lanka] with nearly a third of adult players coming from this area.
