Clubs are reminded of the importance of appointing A Children's Officer and a Designated Person under the terms of the Code of Ethics and Good Practice in Children's Sport. The Children's Officer should be someone closely involved with the running of your youth section and should be the link between the children and adults in your club. He or she should also take responsibility for promoting awareness of the Code of Ethics & Good Practice in the club. The Designated Person should be a senior member of the club and it would be his or her duty to inform the statutory authorities of any case of child abuse which might come to light in the club, or in the case of a child disclosing an abuse which was taking place outside the responsibilities of the club. He or she would also be expected to handle any serious disciplinary situation which might arise in the youth section or a serious complaint against a coach.
Both the Children's Officer and the Designated Person should, if possible, have attended a basic awareness course on the Code of Ethics. There will be two Child Protection courses run over the next month, one in The Hills on Wed 15th March 6.30 - 9.30pm and on Monday 5th March in Leinster CC from 6.30- 9.30pm. To register for one of these courses please contact stephen.moreton@irishcricket.org
All clubs shoud have persons in place before the start of the season. The names and e/mail addresses of the Children's Officer and Designated persons shoud be sent to Aideen Rice as soon as posisble at aideenrice@gmail.com
