With thanks to Brian O'Sullivan who compiled all the statistics.
Given the poor weather for much of the summer, to complete over 450 matches across the Cricket Leinster youth club competitions in 2016 was a commendable effort. The number of clubs [22] with youth sections has remained steady over the past five years. The picture with regard to the number of teams was not so promising. Although the year started well with 169 teams registered, by the end of the season this had dropped to 148, still an increase over 2011 but a decline in the numbers achieved since.

Another slightly disquieting feature of the figures was the number of matches that were not played either due to a concession [32] or because of rain or for reasons of ground unavailability. This represents 22% of the total scheduled matches. Youth teams have seemed to draw the short straw when it comes to matches being canceleld due to the re-fixing of OC matches. This may be something that needs to be looked into for next year.
